Voting COVID-19 style

Democrats, Republicans and everyone in between--its voting season.

On Wednesday, October 14, Tennessee began its early voting period, when registered voters can cast their ballot before election day, November 3. In Dyersburg, the County Election Commission’s polling station is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Mondays through Fridays and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The early voting process is identical to voting on election day, and voters must present a valid photo ID at the polls. Though voting times vary in each town, the early voting window closes throughout Tennessee on October 29--in less than two weeks!

Voters can also vote early through the mail. Unlike voting at the booth, mail-in voting in Tennessee requires voters to request and submit an application no later than seven days before November 3. If their application is approved, their mail-in vote must be received by November 3 to be counted.

Because voters must prove they have a valid reason to vote by mail, this option has only been popular among those who have no way to vote in person. This year, however, it is a valid option for almost everyone the nation shares a reason to mail-in vote: to avoid getting COVID-19.

“Voting is important because you are laying down the path for the next generation and making the country a safer place,” senior Bethany Pruitt said.

Early voting, mail-in voting and election day voting: three different, fully accessible ways every registered voter can cast their vote.

So, what is stopping you?
