As the sun set over the Dyer County High School campus, the first inter-county rivalry of the Spring sports season was initiated. After a short bus trip down the road, the DHS baseball team cracked open the game, leading in the second inning 1-0. Senior Jordan Williamson started the top of the inning by drawing a walk. Followed by a single from Sophomore Alex Page and Seth Daniels, the bases were loaded for Sophomore Jake Stanley. The lefty ace of the Trojan staff helped his cause with a sacrifice flyout, scoring Williamson to take the early lead over the Choctaws. Stanley suppressed the county offense, and the Trojans were able to add another run to their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Although unearned and due to an error from the opponent, this run scored by Senior Ace Mahaffey would later prove to be critical. Holding their 2-0 lead, in the bottom of the sixth inning the Choctaws tested the Trojan defense. Although breaking through and scoring one run, the county Dyer County offense could not generate enough momentum to overtake Dyersburg.
