Trojans pull the plug on the Chargers in the Region 7 quarterfinals

The Blaine Train cruised past the Covington Chargers with a final score of 80-49 Saturday night in an offensive show at “The Glove”.

The game was close through the first quarter with a score of 15-14 in Covington’s favor. Eight of the Trojans’ first quarter points came from senior combo Malik McLin and Jaylon Brown. The Trojans pulled away in the second quarter, scoring 23 points. Ryan Lowrance, Ace Mahaffey, and Jaylon Brown scored 15 of the Trojans’ 23 in the second quarter. The score going into halftime was 37-22, Trojans.

Mahaffey’s squad kept the same scoring pace, scoring 24 points in the third quarter. Ryan Lowrance led the way this quarter scoring 11 points. The game was put out of Covington’s reach in the fourth quarter. Several Trojans combined to score 19 points in the fourth quarter.

The defense was also on display. The Trojans outscored Covington 66-33 in the second, third and fourth quarters. The leading scorers for Dyersburg were Ryan Lowrance, 21 points and Jaylon Brown, 18 points.

The Blaine Train rolls on to round two of regional

play against Haywood at 6 pm Tuesday night at Obion County High School. A win in this game would secure a spot for the Trojans in the region championship.
