The (6-8) Trojans looked to make a home stand and get back in the win column against the (10-5) Chargers in a full 4-quarter showdown. The Chargers came out in a full-court defense trying to slow down the Trojans' fast offense. Dyersburg was not able to get the 3-ball going in the first quarter but the Black and Gold had things going for them on the other side of the ball. The Trojans were able to force many turnovers and quick buckets to gain some momentum. Turnage had it going for him in the first quarter with 9 points for the Trojans and finding himself at the line twice and going 3/3 from the line. Even though Dyersburg had things going for them, the Chargers weren’t backing down with multiple scorers in the first quarter. The Trojans got into foul trouble in the first quarter sending Westview to the line multiple times with them only knocking down 5/9 of their free throw attempts. With the free throws and a few pretty shots hit by the Chargers, the quarter ended with the Trojans up 20-15. The Chargers came out firing in the second quarter where the Trojans' 5 point lead was no longer. Westview put up 22 to the Trojans' 14 points in the second quarter making the score 34-37 Westview on top at the half. At the beginning of the second half, it felt like nothing was going for the Trojans with Westview pulling away by as much as 16. Later in the third, the Trojans slowly started cutting into that lead. At about the 2-minute mark, Turnage scored his 1000th point in his high school career, then with 2 big Jeff Cobb 3-point makes, the Trojans kept on fighting back making it 51-58 Westview. The fourth quarter was one to remember. With 5 minutes to play, the Black and Gold had fought back making it a 58-60 ball game from that point on it was a full-on battle. The game had come down to the wire; with 30 seconds to play, the Trojans inbounded the ball in a 66-66 ball game, and with good ball movement and spacing, they were able to run some clock down. With about 4 seconds on the game clock, Marcus Whorton put up a huge 3 and drained it which left the Chargers with 1.5 seconds to draw up and run a play after a Westview timeout. Westview inbounded the ball, they have it at half-court, a quick pass to the corner, the shot went up and he made it, but he was not able to get off the shot in time, which left the Trojans with a 69-66 win over the Chargers.
