Trojans Basketball win in close matchup against Dyer County

Dyer County traveled to the Glove to play Dyersburg with the Choctaws looking to get the first win in district play in a cross-town rivalry. 

     The first quarter was back and forth between Dyersburg and Jamin Gauldin for the Choctaws. Higgins led the way for the Trojans with seven first-quarter points while Gauldin had 13 first-quarter points for the Choctaws, which left Dyer County up at the end of the first quarter 18-15.

     In the second quarter, the Trojans were able to slow Gauldin down but he was able to add his third 3-point shot of the night. Jace Ward was able to put up seven second-quarter points to make it a close game at the end of the first with the orange and white leading 32-31.

     The Trojans came out the half firing. Jace Ward was unstoppable for The Trojans, adding nine more points by his name in the score sheet. The Trojans still couldn’t slow Gauldin down with him having seven third-quarter points with another three by his name. However, the Trojans were able to get out in front by the end of the third up 48-43.

     The fourth quarter was a dogfight to the end. Gauldin was still on a roll for the Choctaws adding his fifth and sixth three of the night and adding his game total to 35 points by his name. Turnage had nine fourth-quarter points which had put the Trojans ahead. With a quick few buckets from the Choctaws with 20 seconds to go the orange and white had made it a two-point game. The Trojans inbounded the ball with seven seconds and the Choctaws fouled to send Jace Ward to the line for two free throws with two seconds left to play. He missed the first but made the second to make it a three-point game. The Choctaws inbound the ball and threw up a prayer it was no good which left Dyersburg with a win in The Glove 63-60
