Trojan Marching Band scores first place at JCS

Hannah Pankey - Reporter

On Saturday, October 22, the DHS Marching Band brought home trophies from the West TN Small Band Championship at Jackson Christian School. They performed their field show titled “It’s Possible” under the lights of the Ronnie Fowler Stadium.

Dyersburg competed against the two other class AAA bands for titles in color guard, percussion, and overall band. Because of their outstanding performance, all three sections received first place trophies within their class. This is the first time this season the band has earned these awards.

The band also competed against twelve other bands in the same sections. The color guard placed 4th overall and the percussion section placed 3rd. Most notably, in overall band, Dyersburg was awarded second place.

Listening to the band discuss what got them here, one can easily tell that their performance at JCS did not come easy. Hard work was put in to perfect the routine. Not only do they practice during the week and after school, but on Friday night, the band practiced late into the night, running through their show on the football field.

“It IS possible,” band director Jayvon Treadway said. The Marching Band’s first-place presentation proves his statement.

The next and final competition will be next Saturday, October 29, at Bethel University.
