The Dyersburg Trojan and Lady Trojan basketball teams played the Millington Trojans at The Glove Tuesday night. Tim Strayhorn’s girls won 67-32 and Blaine Mahaffey’s boys beat Millington 72-38.
In the first half of the girls' game, Natala Dixon shot and scored four 2-point shots. Chelby Jordan, Kathleen Harrel, Joya Crawford, and Aeria Quinn all made 3-point shots. The score at the end of the half was 36-8. In the last half of the game, Freshman Kathleen Harrel scored two more 3-point shots for a total of four the whole game, which was the most 3-pointers on the team. Sophomore Joya Crawford also notably scored a total of 20 points throughout the game, placing her lifetime points just 16 away from 1,000.
The boys’ team also played well. In the first half, Ka’Reeson Thomas, Malik McLin, and Ryan Lowrance made three-point shots. Jaylon Brown, Ace Mahaffey, and Breyden Turnage also scored throughout the half leaving the halftime score at 29-11. The team hit a total of eight 3-point shots in the last half. Ryan Lowrance made 2 of these, for a total of 14 points the whole game, which made him the leading scorer of the night. Ace Mahaffey made two shots as well.
Both teams played outstandingly Tuesday night and will play again at the Terry Glover Gymnasium January 20 against Poplar Bluff.
