There's no place like Thescon

Zoey Gates - Editor

A group of students from Dyersburg High School Drama attended Thescon in Murfreesboro, TN this past weekend. Thescon is a two-day convention where students are able to participate in a wide variety of classes. The theme for Thescon this year was “There's no place like home.”

Classes include acting, dance, musical theatre, singing and so much more. To be able to attend Thescon, students must achieve official Thespian status. To do so, they must earn at least 100 hours of theatre work.

At Thescon, students watched two productions, “Peter and the Starcatcher” and “The Play that Goes Wrong.” Both productions showed off amazing talent. Throughout both days, students were able to watch one-act plays.

These included “Bad Auditions by Bad Actors,” “The Mysterious Case of the Mysterious Case” and “Almost, Maine.” Students ate lunch and dinner at the MTSU campus dining hall.

On the last day, during the closing ceremonies, students enjoyed aerial performances, three monologues, three solo performances, and the installation of the 2023-2024 executive board for Thescon.

Students ended their trip on Sunday with a three-hour car ride back to Dyersburg, saying goodbye to Thescon until next year.
