Softball moves through tournament play

Throughout the regular season, the Dyersburg Lady Trojans battled hard in all of their district games. The last regular season district game was against Dyer County; the winner would hold the second seed and the loser would hold the third. Unfortunately, the Dyer County Choctaws took the win. Although a win would have been nice, the outcome of the game did not matter too much as the inter-county rivals would be facing each other in the first round of district regardless.

The Lady Trojans found their bats and beat the Choctaws 13-2 in a five-inning, run-rule win. Within the district tournament bracket, this set Dyersburg to play the winner of Crockett County and Obion County, and Dyer County to play the loser. When facing the Crockett County Cavaliers, Dyersburg lost 4-2 while Dyer County took the dub, ending Obion’s season. This set the Trojans and the Choctaws against each other once again, but this time, competing for their seasons, the ability to move on to the regional tournament, and a shot at winning the District Championship.

The Lady Trojans came out on top in a 5-3 and ended the Choctaws’ season. Although they would ultimately fall to Crockett County the next game, they still moved on to the Regional Tournament. After the game against Crockett County, District awards were presented. Junior Alli Alford, Freshman Lily Kate Jones, Freshman Chelby Jordan, Junior Madyson Lanier, Freshman Izzie Odom, Junior Courtney Richardson, and Senior Makai Ward were all awarded as members of the 13AAA All-District Team. Alford, Jones, and Lanier were also named members of the All-Tournament team. Jordan was awarded the Co-Infielder of the year, Odom was awarded Rookie of the Year, Ward was awarded All Academic team, and Richardson was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the year.

Dyersburg’s first match-up in the Region is Munford. They will play Monday, May 15th, at 6pm at Munford to compete for the continuation of their season and a trip to Murfreesboro. Please come out and support your Lady Trojans!
