Hannah Pankey - Reporter

A group of 14 students took a trip to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, for a Model United Nations conference on November 18 through 20. The conference was held at the Embassy Suites.

Over the three days, Dyersburg students made an outstanding performance, with many students getting recognized during the awards presentation.

Three students received an award for being an Outstanding Delegate. These students were Clare Bernheisel, Hannah Pankey, and Amelia Langford. The criteria for this award is extensive but includes, “evidence of preparation and research, poise and maturity, and excellent communication through clear, concise, and convincing speech.”

Another group of students were given awards because of their Outstanding Resolution. These students were Makendra Ezell, Zoey Gates, and Zoe Brown of the Maldives delegation, and Clare Bernheisel, Livvie Copeland and Niia Shamoil of the Andorra delegation. Outstanding resolutions must be innovative, feasible, in character of the nation, have a significant impact, and be correctly formatted.

Junior Zoie Gonzales was chosen to be a summit delegate. This means that she worked with other students throughout the weekend to produce a resolution presented to all the students at the final conference during the plenary session.

Overall, the students who participated in the conference had recognizable performance and represented Dyersburg’s tradition of excellence.
