Coach Tim Strayhorn’s Lady Trojans and Coach Blaine Mahaffey’s Trojans traveled to Martin Tuesday to face off against the Westview Chargers. Mahaffey’s squad picked up a 67-36 win while Strayhorn’s squad unfortunately lost 53-30.

Freshman Katheleen Harrell and Sophomore Joya Crawford both had a big first quarter. Harell hit two 3 point shots and Crawford added on another 3 pointer and a layup, combining for 11 points. Crawford added another 2 points in the second quarter to make the score 15-13 in Westview’s favor going into the half. Westview pulled away scoring 38 points in the second half. Crawford tacked on four 3’s for 12 points in the second half and Freshman Aerie Quinn added another 3. Despite the Trojans’ excellent 3 point shooting, they could not keep up with the girls from Westview. Joya Crawford was the leading scorer, having 19 points.

Mahaffey’s squad had the lead for all 4 quarters against Westview tonight. Junior Ace Mahaffey was the leading scorer for the Trojans tonight having 14 points, all in the first half. 10 of the Trojans’ 11 players scored tonight; the starting five combined for 43 points and the bench provided 24. The defense was on display tonight as well, only 4 of Westview’s players scored. The all-around outstanding performance led the Trojans to their 67-36 victory.

Both teams play South Gibson Friday night for the homecoming game at Terry Glover Gymnasium.
