Several members of the golf team played in the district tournaments on Monday, September 19. Members include Maddie Kate Wells, Noah Neal, Grayson Carr, Ryan Lowrance, Zack Mangrum, Tyler Madden, Zade Hunsley, Ace Mahaffey, and Hayden Humphreys.

Golfers at the district tournament take time to gather their thoughts and pray for a good match before they begin their day.

Junior Ace Mahaffey advanced to regionals with a score of 78, the best score of DHS' team during this match.

Senior Zack Mangrum shot for 85 at the district tournament on Monday, September 19.

Senior Tyler Madden shot for 90 at the district tournament held at the Farms in Dyersburg.

Freshman Maddie Kate Wells advanced to regionals with a score of 132.

The Dyersburg golf team has proven to once again be up to par after today’s match at The Farms Golf Club.

The team finished 3rd overall, only falling two strokes behind Milan High School. South Gibson, who finished runner-up at the state tournament last year, came in first. All three teams will advance to the Region Tournament.

Junior Ace Mahaffey tied for 3rd as an Individual Medalist with a score of 78, advancing as an individual. Freshman Maddie Kate Wells will also advance as an individual member.

“Ace has emerged as a leader of the team this year in every facet of the game. His work ethic and attitude in his approach have really improved his play in making better decisions, in shot selection, when to be aggressive, when to play a bit more conservatively…and most importantly - the mental aspect of the golf - being able to put the bad shots behind him.” coach Kavin Carr said.

Senior Zack Mangrum finished with a score of 85, while seniors Tyler Madden and Ryan Lowrance each shot for 90. Rounding out the DHS boys' team was junior Noah Neal with a score of 115.

“I’m thankful we finished 3rd to go as a team,” Carr said, “These seniors are so special to me! I've had the privilege of coaching Zack and Tyler for many years as they have played golf for DMS and DHS and I know they still have a lot of golf left in them. I’m confident that they will return to form on Monday!”

The Region Tournament will be held next Monday, September 26th at The Farms.

Only one team and the top 5 individuals move on to the State Tournament held in Sevierville, TN.
