Flu shot season

Fall is a time for bright leaves, Halloween and pumpkin spice lattes. It is the time of year when sweatshirts are worn and scary movies begin to play.

Fall is also the time of year when the flu begins to be seen across the United States. The month of October officially marks the flu season, and the number of cases begins to rise throughout the remainder of the year.

The flu can lead to many students finding themselves too sick to come to school for at least a few days. This drawback can be detrimental to students’ grades and social lives. It can also be a problem in the students’ home if their parents have to take off work to take care of a sick child.

To try to fight this, Dyersburg High School gave out free flu shots, on September 29 for those who signed up. Nine students in total received a flu shot during the advisory period.

The shots were given by nurse Chloe Wood from West Tennessee Health Care and watched over by Dyersburg High School’s own nurse, Angie Brown.

These free shots help to provide students with a chance to receive healthcare that will help provide them with a step ahead of the flu virus.
