Dyersburg High School opens its own on-campus coffee shop every morning during first period. With a selection of frappes, iced coffees, hot coffees and hot chocolate, students and teachers frequently visit for a quick pick-me-up in the morning. The Trojan Perk, created and directed by Bobby Ellis, is run by students in Amanda MacArthur, Jerome Agnew, and Allene Sykes’s classes as well as their student helpers: Launa White, Izzy Harris and Shadiamond Mack.

Frappes are made with ice, syrup, milk, coffee and xanthan gum. Then, it is blended in a basic blender and served with whipped cream and a drizzle, if preferred. Iced coffees are made with syrup, espresso, milk and ice. Whip and caramel or mocha drizzle can be added if requested. Hot coffee is made with syrup and espresso. The coffee shop also provides hot chocolate as another option for non-coffee drinkers.

Students enjoy visiting the coffee shop, especially since they are able to put in special requests, and the beverages are delivered directly to their classroom! The Trojan Perk prides itself on its quality and is constantly striving to become an even greater establishment.
