Yesterday, students from Dyersburg High School, Dyer County High School, and Christ Classical Academy attended education visits for Dyer County Youth Leadership. They visited The Tennessee College of Applied Technology, or TCAT, in Newbern where they learned about the many hands-on programs they offer. Among the programs they saw were practical nursing, HVAC/R, cosmetology, welding and computer-aided design technology. The students learned of a fast-track option to a career, as most of these programs take one to two years to complete.
After they visited TCAT, the students traveled to Dyersburg State Community College, where they were introduced to the President of DSCC, Dr. Scott Cook, as well as other important faculty members of the college. The Dyer County Youth Leadership students were then given a tour of specific areas of the campus, with the main highlights being the telescope, the anatomy classroom, the nursing animatronics and ended the tour in the library. With each stop, they were given in-depth information about the opportunities that await them if they choose to pursue the community college route.
Once the students finished their educational visits at TCAT and DSCC respectively, they went for a group lunch at El Patio. This concluded their DCYL trip of the month, as they made it back to school just in time for their last class of the day.
