DMS Moves to Phase 1

For the 2020-2021 school year, the Dyersburg City Schools school system has created various phases to ensure the safety of the students. Phase 1 is the most severe, placing every student on virtual learning, and Phase 4 is the least severe, with no restrictions.

Up until this point, none of the Dyersburg City Schools have been placed on Phase 1, but that changed on October 19 when Dyersburg Middle School moved to Phase 1.

DMS was placed on Phase 1 due to a significant number of the staff members being quarantined or isolated.

“40% of the regular teaching staff were either quarantined or isolated. There were not enough substitutes to continue a feasible in-person learning program at Dyersburg Middle School,” superintendent Kim Worley said.

Although few of the staff are symptomatic with COVID-19, a significant percentage of the staff is quarantined due to contact tracing. Since there are few that have actually become sick so far, virtual learning will work until the staff members can return in two weeks.

The teaching staff and students of DMS practiced zoom meetings Monday, October 19 to ensure their ability to continue efficiently while not within the school walls.
