On Saturday, November 6, the DHS dance team traveled to Murfreesboro to compete in the TSSAA State Dance Competition. The team competed in the kick and gameday division.

After performing early in the morning, the team was thrilled to go to awards. They placed first in the varsity kick division, and this is the fourth consecutive state title for the team.

“I was very excited we won. We worked really, really hard. Ya know, we can now say we are four-time State champs. I’m just glad our hard work paid off,” Senior Captain Blakely MacArthur said.

The seniors, Anna Blair Jackson, Blakely MacArthur, Maddison McCaig, Anna Staggs, and Kate Thompson, have now won a state title every year they have been on the team. A feat few can say they have conquered.

“This team is led by a great group of role models, who have been resilient all four years. They are so hardworking and just bring energy to the team,” Coach Cathy Bona said.

The team also placed third in the newly created Varsity Gameday division. With tough competition from Memphis and Knoxville, the small team of twelve was happy with third.

“I am very proud of how we did in both categories, we are so excited to be four-time state champs with a group of seniors who have done it all for years. And I am very happy with third, especially being against hard-hitting teams of about 30 girls. Everything was great, they were sharp, it’s expected of them,” Bona said.

The team will travel to Orlando in March to compete in NDA Nationals.
