The Dyersburg High School Dance Team traveled to the TSSAA State Dance Championships on November 5, 2022. The competition was held at the Murphy Center on the campus of MTSU.
The team performed two separate dances, Kick and Game Day. The kick routine was to Crocodile Rock and the routine was required to have at least 60 kicks. Their routine had 70 kicks and was two minutes long. The kick routine placed first, making this their 5th consecutive year to win the state championship title in Varsity High Kick.
The Game Day routine was a three-minute long dance that consists of the fight song, a sideline dance, and a time-out dance. The Game Day routine placed second, making them state runner-up.
Both routines were choreographed by Coach Cathy Bona who is the Director at Fine Arts Warehouse dance studio and has been coaching the DHS Dance Team since 2012. Amy Staggs also coaches the team and teaches jazz technique classes at Fine Arts Warehouse. She began her coaching career at DMS in 2013, and soon moved to DHS in 2018. The dance team started competing at the state championships in 2017.
They’ve been competing at NDA since 2013.
