Changes to lunch

People have mixed feelings following the decision to move students from the Commons into the Sportsplex while eating lunch.

The change allows for only two people per table during lunch.

Principal Kamela Rogers said that the reasoning behind the change was to “reduce the amount of cases” and “burst the bubble” regarding the 15 minute threshold, which is that if a student is within 6 feet distance from another student for less than 15 minutes, it is less likely for COVID-19 to spread between the students.

Rogers said that if a student tests positive for COVID-19, only that one student would be sent home into quarantine because the new system allows for 6 feet distance to be maintained.

“Lunch is usually the one time throughout the school day for me to not worry about work and to talk with my friends. I understand that it is a health concern but all these regulations are starting to make school less and less enjoyable,” senior Ebalee White said.

COVID-19 will continue to affect the school’s functions throughout the school year.
