Art club prepares for Sorghum Valley

Breeanna Brooks - Reporter

On November 8 and 10, the Art Club painted a giant Christmas card to be displayed at Sorghum Valley. It has become a long-standing tradition since art teacher Sara Myint has painted a gigantic Christmas card for the festive event every year since she started teaching art at Dyersburg Primary School. “I probably have done it for ten years,” Myint said.

Every year in early December, the area known as Sorghum Valley on the Dyer County Fairgrounds transforms into a vintage Christmas town. While there, visitors can admire Dyersburg’s vintage architecture and stunning Christmas trees while sipping on hot chocolate.

As soon as the theme of the “Road to We” for this year’s Sorghum Valley festivities was declared, Myint knew just what to paint for it. “I think for the road to togetherness, we’ve all been in 2020 and we can have events like Sorghum Valley and socializing and so I think everybody is just celebrating,” Myint said.

So with that in mind, she painted a monochrome scene of a family coming together to load a Christmas tree into a truck on the road. Then, the Art Club helped give the picture some color, with the group dividing to give life to different areas of the painting.

Without a doubt, this year’s Sorghum Valley will be full of Christmas cheer with the Art Club’s painting of a colorful Christmas scene.
