Annual blood drive draws crowd

Sam Jayroe - Reporter

Students of Dyersburg High School have been given the opportunity to donate blood to the LifeLine blood drive this week. If a student is over the age of 17 and has the consent form signed, then they can sign up to give blood that will be used by hospitals to save the lives of people in need. The consent forms could be found in the cafeteria earlier in the week at a table run by seniors Morgan Hammons and Makaya Moody.

“Giving blood is more important now than ever. COVID has sent the nation into a severe blood shortage. Donating blood is an easy way to help save lives.” Hammons said.

Both of these seniors are part of the Health Science and Medical Therapeutics classes at DHS, and Makaya Moody even goes to the Dyersburg Hospital to get on-the-job training.

“I got to compare reality to TV shows and see what really goes on inside a Hospital setting,” Moody said.

The ability to get on-the-job training for students who want to follow a medical career can be very beneficial since they must have the ability to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-life situations.

The next time that you have the opportunity to donate blood, be aware that you could be saving lives.
